What is remote online notarization?
Remote online notarization (RON) is notarization performed through a live audio-visual session when the signer and notary are in different physical locations. The notary verifies identity, witnesses the signature, and applies an electronic notarial certificate according to Ohio requirements.
RON is different from electronic signatures alone or DIY notarization apps. A commissioned Ohio notary public must conduct the session and complete the notarial act.
How a RON session works with Noted Notaries
You request an appointment through the online notary workflow or contact page. We review your document type and details if needed — this is not instant automated notarization.
When your document appears eligible for RON and your receiving agency accepts it, We send a secure session link. You join the video session with valid government-issued photo ID, complete signing as directed, and receive your notarized document electronically.
If RON is not appropriate, We may recommend a mobile notary visit in Greater Cincinnati instead.
RON eligibility — what to confirm first
Eligibility is document-specific and agency-specific. Schools, courts, lenders, and government offices may require in-person notarization, wet-ink originals, or additional witnesses even when Ohio law allows RON.
Before booking, check with the organization that will receive your notarized document. We can explain the notary's role and scheduling options but cannot guarantee that a third party will accept a remotely notarized document.
What you need for an online session
Valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification that matches the name on your document.
A device with a reliable camera, microphone, and internet connection for the full session.
Your document ready to sign — typically unsigned until the notary instructs you during the session.
Any required witnesses present and identified if your form requires witnesses for RON.
RON vs. mobile notary visits
RON works well for many affidavits and documents when the receiving agency accepts electronic notarization and you can meet technical requirements from home.
Mobile notary visits remain important for signers in hospitals, care facilities, or situations requiring in-person witnesses on site. Greater Cincinnati mobile coverage is available through the contact page.
